In a world where social media and superficial indicators like wealth, status, and achievements often dictate our sense of value, the Bible provides a deeply spiritual and reassuring perspective on our true worth. According to God's Word, our value isn't determined by temporary things but by the eternal God, who deserves all praise, will never leave us nor forsake us, and calls us the apple of His eye. Let’s explore what the scriptures say about this.
Created in His Image
Because God loves each and every one of us so much, He made us to resemble Him. Our Holy Father's sacrificial act of creation is the cornerstone of our value.
Genesis 1:27 proclaims, “So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.” This verse emphasizes that our heavenly Father created us in his likeness. Since we are uniquely made in His image, we have an inherent and unmatched worth.
Precious and Honorable
God’s view of our worth is expressed vividly in Isaiah 43:4: “Since thou wast precious in my sight, thou hast been honourable, and I have loved thee.” This passage declares how precious we are to God, which brings to light the wonderful fact that God cherishes us and understands the full extent of our worth. The term "precious" serves as a reminder that we are extremely valuable, honorable, priceless, and deserving of love.
Love Beyond Measure
Perhaps the most compelling evidence of our worth is found in John 3:16, a verse cherished by many: “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” The significance and sacrifice of giving up His only Son must be understood in order to fully comprehend God's love. This offering is an expression of our infinite value and of how much we mean to God. Could you imagine the immense worth of you, that an all-knowing, all-powerful, all-present deity would give up His one and only son in order to save your soul?
Fearfully and Wonderfully Made
Psalm 139:14 affirms our intrinsic value through the declaration, “I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.” The basic essence of our value is highlighted in this verse. Each one of us was created with the intention of serving God and showing others how lovely it is to let God work through us, as we are all pieces of his magnificent workmanship.
Redemption’s Price
The New Testament reinforces our worth through the price paid for our redemption. 1 Peter 1:18-19 explains, “Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot.” The beautiful and precious blood of Jesus Christ cleanses us from all unrighteousness. It not only shows us how much He values us, but it also reveals the true value of redemption.
A Purposeful Creation
Our value also comes with purpose. Ephesians 2:10 states, “For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.” In addition to being valuable, God created us with the intention of using us to accomplish His greatest tasks. Can you fathom how precious you are to an all-knowing God that He would use you to carry out part of His work? Knowing that He included us in His perfect plan shows how much He cherishes and loves us.
Embracing Your Worth
Realizing the extent of your value involves recognizing the absolute power of God. When it comes to demonstrating to you how valuable you are to Him, no trend or standard from this world can compare to the love, purpose, and plan that He has for you. Accept who God is, let God's love to fill your heart, and be inspired to love people as God has loved you—that is, to "love thy neighbor as thyself." Live a life that demonstrates your assurance and faith in God's view of you and the person He created you to be.
Ultimately, the Bible gives a profound description of our value, our worth, and God's love for us. From bearing the greatest sacrifice to being made in His image. As God's precious offspring, we are all aware of how valuable and priceless we are. When we choose to live according to the truth of God's word, we can recognize and understand our invaluable worth to God.
